Ukraine sets up national anti-AIDS and anti-tuberculosis council
KIEV, December 11 (Itar-Tass) -- The Ukrainian government has adopted a decision to set up a national coordinating council against HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Tabachnik told a news conference in Kiev on Monday.
"This resolution obligates all regional administrations, including those in the Crimea and Sevastopol, to promote the establishment of local councils to this effect," Tabachnik explained.
In his words, a program aimed at disease prevention is expected to cover a period of three years and receive the status of law.
"We are going to embrace up to 50,000 people by medical assistance and treatment. The program should become the basis for a legal act that will be approved at a government meeting," Tabachnik said, stressing, "The problem is especially acute."
According to the deputy prime minister, the council’s working group will include representatives from the Health Ministry, the Interior Ministry, and the National Security Service.
