Russia introduces new bill to help domestic drug producers
A proposed new bill on sales of pharmaceutical products is expected to put domestic drug producers on equal footing with their foreign competitors, Healthcare and Social Development Minister Tatyana Golikova told reporters Tuesday, as cited by ITAR-TASS.
The draft bill would force foreign companies to hold mandatory clinical testing of drugs in Russia – something domestic producers already must do, Golikova said.
The bill is also expected to address state regulation of drug prices, Golikova said.
The State Duma, the Russian parliament’s lower house, is scheduled to consider the first reading of the draft bill on Friday.
Golikova also said she hoped the government would soon make a decision on how to regulate sales of biologically active additives, which aren’t covered by the bill on drug sales. These additives are regulated by the bill on foodstuffs, but are sold in pharmacies, she said. The additives are not a medicine, but are usually advertised as a means to treat various ailments.
