Genome of a Russian Man SequencedRussian scientists successfully sequenced a human genome, and it took them as little as six months. This is eighth full sequenced human genome in the world.
Now geneticists can compare Russian genome to genetic portraits of an American, a Korean, an African and some other nationalities.
Knowing the sequence of human genome has many applications, but main and most important one is in medicine. Genome-based analysis can show what genes are responsible for various hereditary diseases.
Nanotechnologies made genome sequencing by Russian scientists faster and cheaper than previous works of their foreign colleagues. The slowest part was mathematical calculations, since human genome consists of about 20-25 thousand genes, however, supercomputer of the Kurchatov Institute, where the research is based, was of a great help.
