A/H1N1 vaccine to be available by September: Russian health expert
A vaccine against the A/H1N1 flu would be available in Russia by September, a Russian health expert said Friday.
An A/H1N1 flu vaccine will be developed by September by the Flu Institute of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Mikhail Yeropkin, head of the Institute's flu evolutionary mutation laboratory, was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.
"Normally, it takes seven or eight months to prepare a vaccine, but in the situation the deadlines will be reduced to a three-month period," Yeropkin said in the northern city of St. Petersburg.
Russia has so far reported three confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases. The country's chief public health official said Wednesday that the first two patients diagnosed with the flu had recovered.
The World Health Organization said Wednesday that some 13,398 A/H1N1 flu infections had been recorded in 48 countries and regions.
